AC Milan moved to the top of Serie A on Saturday with a hard-fought 1-0 win at promoted Genoa. The victory was sealed by a late goal from Christian Pulisic, but it was Olivier Giroud who stole the headlines with his heroics in goal.
With just seven minutes remaining, Milan goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu was sent off for handling the ball outside the penalty area. With no other substitutes available, Giroud was forced to take over between the posts.
Despite having never played in goal before, Giroud showed remarkable composure and made a crucial save deep into injury time to deny Genoa a late equalizer. His heroics helped Milan secure all three points and move to the top of the table.
The win was Milan's fourth in a row in Serie A and extended their unbeaten run to seven games. They now lead Napoli by two points at the summit, although the Partenopei have a game in hand.
Genoa, meanwhile, remain rooted to the bottom of the table with just one point from their opening seven games. They will be hoping to turn their fortunes around when they host Spezia next weekend.
