Hunter Armstrong Breaks World Record in 50 Backstroke
Explosive Finish to the Meet
In an explosive ending to the meet, Hunter Armstrong broke the World Record in the 50 back with a massive 2371. After taking down the American and US Open records, Armstrong capped off his incredible performance with the World Record on Sunday night.
Setting New Records
Armstrong's record-breaking swim not only set a new world mark but also shattered Kliment Kolesnikov's previous record of 2380 seconds, set in 2021. The 21-year-old from Dover, Ohio, also broke the American record with a time of 2401 seconds in a preliminary race on Thursday morning.
Despite his impressive performance, Armstrong's victory was not without its challenges. He had a narrow margin for error but ultimately secured the win, the world record, and a spot on the World Championships team.
